In 1934, Georges Beuchat founded the company in Marseille, on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea — the cradle of modern diving. At just 24 years old, this young man, passionate about the underwater world and an avid spearfisher, constantly imagined and developed the products that would later enable the emergence of modern underwater activities.

A pioneer of recreational spearfishing, Georges Beuchat invented the first underwater speargun — the iconic Tarzan — by developing the very first rubber-powered propulsion system.

In 1953, Georges Beuchat invented the isothermal diving suit — the wetsuit. This groundbreaking innovation played a key role in the rise and development of underwater activities. Nearly seventy years later, the foundations he established remain relevant, even though materials and manufacturing techniques have evolved.

Beuchat introduced the Compensator Mask, the first diving mask featuring an inclined lens and a molded nasal pocket to facilitate equalization.

With the Jet Fin, Beuchat created the first fins featuring water-jet channels. By reducing the negative zone effect, these channels make finning more comfortable, more efficient, and higher-performing. The Jet Fin enjoyed major commercial success and is still sold worldwide today.

This innovation was driven by the desire to offer greater comfort and performance to all underwater sports enthusiasts. In 1966, the first wetsuit truly designed for women appeared, specifically tailored to their body shape.

The sea — Beuchat’s original source of inspiration — is also the cornerstone of its technical expertise. It is the environment in which the brand naturally evolves, sharing its know-how with underwater professionals.

In the 1980s, concerned about the impact of pollution on the oceans, Beuchat issued a pioneering call to action: Save the Sea!

In 2005, Beuchat introduced the Focea Comfort, which quickly became recognized as the best diving wetsuit in the world. Comfort, thermal protection, and durability were the guiding principles for the engineers, designers, and marketing team who developed this product.

Invention of the PreCut System, which allows divers to easily and quickly convert Long John trousers into waist-high pants, and of the Braca Concept, which enables spearfishers to urinate without having to remove their entire wetsuit.

Beuchat was the first brand to introduce an innovative 3D photographic camouflage: Trigocamo.
